Wisconsin volleyball unveils Final Four banner inside UW Field House
The Badgers unveiled the banner from their 2023 Final Four appearance before their exhibition match against Bradley on Aug. 20.
MADISON – Jada Cerniglia may be new to the Wisconsin volleyball program, but she’s very familiar with the Badgers.
The 5-foot-3 defensive specialist/libero announced her commitment to UW on Thursday. She’ll be the fourth member of her immediate family to compete for the Badgers.
Here is the rundown:
- Her father, Mike, lettered in hockey for UW from 1997-2001.
- Her mother, Aleah (Coughlin), lettered for the volleyball team in 1993.
- Older brother Mike was a tight end for the football team in 2023.
Jada Cerniglia, a graduate of Middleton High School, comes to Wisconsin as a graduate transfer after competing at Northern Illinois. She announced her commitment on Instagram.
Cerniglia spent four seasons at Northern Illinois but didn’t play as a freshman. She played 54 matches over the past three seasons. Her best year was 2023 when she played in 26 matches and averaged 1.64 digs per set and recorded 20 aces.
Last season she saw action in 14 matches and averaged 1.35 digs per set.
She’ll give the Badgers another option in the backrow. The team lost its second and third-best libero/defensive specialists when Gulce Guctekin (Tennessee) and Saige Damrow (Creighton) transferred after the season.
As it stands UW has five libero/defensive specialists on the roster for next season: rising sophomores Lola Schumacher and Maile Chan and incoming freshmen Aniya Warren and Kristen Simon.
