Men’s Volleyball Team Claims Victory in One Match but Faces a Tough Loss in Another

The University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team split day two of action with a win (3-1) against Viterbo University (Wis.) but suffered a loss to #10 Missouri Valley College (3-0) in Day 2 of the UJ Invitational in Jamestown, N.D Thursday evening at the Harold Newman Arena

Score: Jamestown 3, Viterbo University 1 (25-17, 25-23, 25-18, 25-12)

Records: Jamestown 3-7, Benedictine Mesa 1-5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies came out hot and were on top with 2-0 scoring run but until a 4-0 run by the V-hawks let them tie and take the lead 7-5
  • Two more short 2-0 scoring run by the V-Hawks were to much for the Jimmies to overcome and the Jimmies dropped the set 25-17 
  • In the second set the Jimmies came out hot going 3-0 scoring run and leading 4-1
  • However the V-Hawks answered back with a run of their own and eventually overtook the lead 12-9 
  • The Jimmies responded immediately going on a 3-0 run to jump back in the lead 15-14 
  • The game was again a battle between the teams but a Markam Cook ace and a kill by Benjamin Allred gave the Jimmies the lead 24-22 and a the Jimmies go on to win the set 25-23
  • The Jimmies and V-Hawks were again in a battle in the third set but the Jimmies pulled away with a 3-0 scoring run with a kill and ace by Michal Niemiec leading 10-4
  • The Jimmies never looked back and were in full command and winning the set 25-18 
  • The Jimmies came out hot again in the fourth set grabbing a 5-1 lead against the V-Hawks
  • The Jimmies played their best set of the year dominating the fourth set and taking the set and winning the match 25-12

Score: Jamestown 0, #10 Missouri Valley College 3 (25-22, 25-23, 25-2)

Records: Jamestown 3-8, #10 Missouri Valley College 3-0

Location: Harold Newman Arena | Jamestown, N.D

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The start of the first set was a back and forth battle but a 7-0 run by the Vikings had the Jimmies down quickly 13-7
  • The Jimmies responded led by going on two separate 3-0 runs led by  four kills by Tomasz Swiderski to bring the set within two 24-22 but the Vikings eventually took the set 25-22
  • In the second set the Jimmies and Vikings were again in a battle but a 4-0 run by the Vikings left he Jimmies trailing 12-8 
  • The Jimmies as before battled back and with a late  3-0 run holding the Vikings to three failed set match points but dropped the set 25-23
  • In the third set the Jimmies found themselves trailing again 8-3 early 
  • The Jimmies never gave up and went on a 4-0 scoring streak and a kill by Gaven Hackley had the set tied 14-14
  • But it was ending surge of 3-0 scoring run gave the Vikings the set 25-23 and the game
