Men’s Volleyball Team Battles It Out, Splits Matches on Final Day of Home Tournament

The University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team faced an exciting mixed bag of results on day three of the UJ Invitational! They celebrated a solid victory against Simpson University, triumphing with a score of 3-1. However, their momentum was challenged as they went up against #7 Benedictine Mesa University, where they fell short with a 3-1 loss; Thursday evening at the Harold Newman Arena in Jamestown, N.D.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jimmies started off slow allowing the Redhawks to go on a 5-0 run to start the match
- The Jimmies tried to crawl themselves out of their deficit with a 4-0 run themselves and coming within two points but they eventually dropped the set 25-21
- In the second set the Jimmies with the help of a lineup change came out hot going 3-0 scoring run and taking a 4-1 lead
- The Jimmies out hit the Redhawks 17-9 and were in full command of the set and won 25-19
- In the third set the Jimmies again were on fire going on another 4-0 run led by a kill and block from Benjamin Allred and an ace by Ethan Hoffert to take a 10-6 lead
- The Jimmies were unstoppable having a .542 hitting percentage and 15 kills to take the set 25-15
- In the fourth set the Jimmies found themselves behind once again after a 4-0 run by the Rehawks left the Jimmies behind 8-4
- The Jimmies quickly responded back with a couple erros from the Redhawks and a kill by Benjamin Allred and ace from Kaden Jenkins the Jimmies tied the set 8-8
- Another 4-0 run by the Jimmies with a kill from Michal Niemiec and ace from Gabriel Ocasio the Jimmies took a 15-13 lead
- However a service error by the Jimmies tied the game 17-17 but the Jimmies would go on a 7-3 run to end the match and win the set and match 25-22

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The start of the first set was a back and forth battle but a 4-1 run by the Redhawks made the Jimmies trail 14-11
- The Jimmies responded back and an ace by Michal Niemiec had the set tied 15-15
- The Redhawks would end the set going on a 3-0 run and taking the set 25-20
- In the second set the Redhawkd jumped out taking a 8-2 early lead that the Jimmies could not overcome dropping the second set 25-16
- In the third set the Jimmies found a spark of life going on a 4-0 scoring run and take a 6-3 lead
- The Jimmies were in complete control of the set going on a 5-0 run led by three consecutive aces by Gaven Hackley the Jimmies found themselves with a seven point lead 20-17 and rallied to win the set 25-21
- In the fourth set the Jimmies battled but a 5-0 scoring run by the Redhawks and the Jimmies could not recover losing the set and match 25-21
