HSG Blomberg Ripe continued its rise with six consecutive wins in the German women’s handball Bundesliga.

Blomberg Lippe defeated Nekarzulm 34-26 in the 16th round of the women’s handball Bundesliga in the 2024/25 season at Sportshall an der Ulmenale in Blomberg, Germany, on the 6th (local time).

With this victory, Blomberg Lippe remained in third place in the league with 11 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses (23 points) for the season. On the other hand, Nekarzulm, who missed his first consecutive win in a long time, finished 11th with 4 wins and 12 losses (8 points).

Blomberg Lippe showed a strong attack from the beginning of the game. Ona Vegué scored the first goal, followed by Ida Hoberg, who scored twice in a row to take a 3-0 lead. Nekarzulm also fought back and closed the gap with Munia Smits’ score.

Despite the initial tight flow, Blomberg-Rippe gradually gained the upper hand. The score of Beige and Nieke Kühne widened the gap to 10-6, and Nekarzulm’s offense weakened when opposing team ace Munia Smitz was sent off midway through the first half. Blomberg then finished the first half with consecutive goals from Quine, Lisa Frey and Amber Verbrakeen to close the gap to 19–13.

Blomberg’s momentum continued in the second half. Goalkeeper Zoe Ludwig’s good defense stood out, and Quine and Hoberg scored back-to-back points to maintain a difference in score with the opponent. Necarzulm tried to narrow the gap by persisting, but with Maxi Mühlner’s mid-range shot and Ludwig’s successive saves, Blomberg managed the game with ease.

With 14 minutes left in the game, Caroline Jaron and Berbraken scored additional points to widen the gap, and Necarzulm followed with two consecutive points in the last minute, but Blomberg eventually sealed the victory 34-26.

Blomberg Rippe led the team’s attack with Ida Hoberg scoring eight goals, with Maxi Müllner and Niké Quine each scoring five. Goalkeeper Zoe Ludwig contributed greatly to his team’s victory with seven saves.

In Nekarzulm, Angun Gudmestad scored seven goals and Lily Matilda Holste scored six. Goalkeeper Lena Ivankok made five saves, but it was not enough to prevent her team’s defeat.

“Of course, I’m happy with the victory,” Blomberg Rippe coach Steffen Birkner said on his website. However, it is regrettable that there were many mistakes during the game. There was a part where we didn’t show as clean a performance as we wanted,” he said.
