LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – With the new era of Nebraska Volleyball now underway, a Nebraska artist has created a piece of art to commemorate John Cook’s retirement and Dani Busboom Kelly’s return to the Huskers.
A licensed Huskers artist, Ashley Spitsnogle decided to recreate the iconic image of Cook and Busboom Kelly hugging at a Nebraska Men’s Basketball game from last Thursday.
Spitsnogle first sketched out the painting with charcoal on Saturday and then added details in acrylic paint on top, finishing the piece on Thursday.
This piece, along with numerous others, has garnered her much attention on her social media accounts where she often documents her art-making process.
“One thing with art that I try to do is capture historical moments, and if I can be in that time during when it’s happening I feel like it’s a lot more impactful,” Spitsnogle said.
This piece was especially personal for Spitsnogle as she not only is a huge fan of Nebraska Volleyball, but she also played basketball against Busboom Kelly in high school.
You can find more information about Spitsnogle’s artwork at her online shop.
