Behind 31 assists from Donovan Constable, CSUN hit .324 (40-16-74) as a team. The Matadors also had a sizable advantage from the service line, posting nine aces to one for the visitors. CSUN also out-blocked the Chargers (5-2) and had 40 kills to 22 for the Chargers.

The lead was still five (12-7) when Constable’s first of three aces cut the lead to 12-9. The Chargers would push the lead back to four at 14-10 when CSUN put together an 11-3 run to take a 21-17 lead on a Matador triple block. The visitors would pull within two at 22-20 before a Kaufman kill capped a 3-1 run as the Matadors closed out a 25-21 win.

A Delibosov kill maintained a four-point CSUN lead at 8-4 and the Matadors used a Phillips kill to lead 9-5. An ensuing 6-4 CSUN run gave the Matadors a 15-9 lead at the media timeout. A kill by Jackson Payne would extend the CSUN lead to 18-12, and the Matadors would win the set going away, 25-16.

THEO
“We got off to a bit of a slow start but I thought our starters did a nice job of settling in. We took care of them in set one, made some changes in set two, and it always takes a little time for guys to get comfortable, but I thought they played well. The goal for us is to get better, and our ability to play multiple guys in different spots and be comfortable with the offense is really what we’re trying to do.”
